Based on a study done in 2012 by NPR, women spend on average 30 minutes a day in the kitchen. It takes about 37 minutes a day to drink a cup of coffee. That means you’re looking at it, taking a sip, look at it, take a sip. That’s over an hour each day that people are in need of high quality, functional art. My name is Kari Phillips, I’m the founder and owner of Belmont Pottery. People in the area should have access to high quality dishware and kitchen accessories that are normally brought to you by high end stores like Williams Sonoma or Crate & Barrel. But, this dishware should not be mass produced. It should be a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece of art that is functional in your everyday life, and Belmont Pottery provides that service to you. My retail customers are primarily people aged 35 and above, who spend at least a half hour a day in the kitchen. My wholesale customers are people who own small businesses in the area who like to showcase and sell Virginia handmade items. The alternatives in this market are your mass produced kitchen accessories and dishware provided to you by companies like Pier 1, Anthropologie, or Williams Sonoma. In addition, there are local hobby potters, woodworkers, and stone carvers, but their work is often presented as display items rather than functional everyday use items. The solution is Belmont Pottery. I have over 12 years of experience creating beautiful works of art that can also be used in your kitchen, your home, and your garden. My products are food safe, dishwasher safe, oven safe, and microwave safe. I’m a wife and I’m a mother and I understand the need for convenience. Everything is a one-of-a-kind handmade piece of art designed with you in mind. My vision for Belmont Pottery is to grow and become a well-known name in Lynchburg and the surrounding areas. The next step for me is to get a website that will showcase my pottery, and create an online presence. Right now you can see my work at the White Hart Cafe, the Bean Tree Cafe, and the Forest Farmers Market, but I’m also looking to develop more stores in the area that will hold my work and sell my products in the Lynchburg area. So, the next time you are looking for a unique, one-of-a-kind gift, remember Belmont Pottery.
About Kari Phillips
Belmont Pottery has been in the works for many years. Nestled in the heart of Virginia, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, I have made her dream come true. With over 12 years of experience and 5 years of teaching experience I left my full time job in 2015 and devoted herself to being a full-time wife, mother and potter. I use high quality clay made to withstand everyday use of the microwave, dishwasher and oven. The chemical composition of my glazes are thoroughly analyzed and tested to confirm they are safe and stable for food use. These one of a kind works of art are designed and hand made with you in mind for optimal comfort and durability. Bring the aesthetic beauty of art into your home with a functional piece by Belmont Pottery.
